The new film picks up a couple of weeks after the first movie ends. Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky are officially a real couple and are busy going on fancy dates and living out other rom-com cliches that we secretly swoon over. Despite some insecurities about the past, everything is mostly looking well for them.

Enter John Ambrose McClaren, Lara Jean’s middle school crush.

Having received one of Lara Jean’s love letters, John Ambrose causes a bit of a stir in Lara Jean and Peter’s relationship. Especially when the pair get to reminiscing about their middle school days and all the feelings come flooding back.

A love triangle quickly begins to form and we find ourselves questioning our unequivocal love for Peter as we are forced to side with #TeamJohn or #TeamPeter.

Lara Jean is confused. John and Peter are confused. We’re confused. It’s a lot.

Alas, in the end, Lara Jean eventually makes her choice between two seemingly perfect guys.
